Sounds like you may have ocd. I once lived with  girl that was similar in many respects. She used to knock the left side of a doorway whenever she used one.

I may have some of the "O" part but feel none of the "C" part. To turn a phrase, "my mother had me tested". It's more of an overboard anal retentive thing. The wife has ocd, not to the point of needing medication but it does get distracting sometimes, often to the point of defying logic.
