It is not the only reason. For example (and this is only one example), you might think that a man would be better for giving prostate exams, as he could relate to it being done to him. But you would be wrong to think that. Women tend to have softer, smaller hands, and they also tend to be more gentle. Also, I have never had a female doctor fail to listen to what I was saying about why I was there. I have, however, had a couple of male doctors focus on some minor nothing instead of paying attention to what I was saying about why the hell I was paying to see a doctor. I do not plan on ever seeing a male GP ever again. Only when I am referred to a specialist of some kind will I go to a male doctor. Without exception, the only total asshole doctors I have encountered have been men.
My advice, whether you are male or female, is to go to a female doctor. If you want someone to treat you like shit, go to a man, as your odds of being treated like shit will be much greater, judging from my experience (as well as the experience of everyone to whom I have spoken on this subject).
Of course, not all men are worthless pieces of shit, but way too many of them are.
When feminists say that women are equal to men, they are wrong. Women are better than men.
In fairness, the best doctor I've ever had was male.
My current OB/GYN is a woman and she has failed to listen to me,
has blown me off by giving me what I know was dangerous misinformation
rather than spend time talking to me about an issue that she THOUGHT was not important,
and has been insensitive.
I wanted a female OB/GYN and now I'm willing to consider going back to one of the males.
However, I wouldn't argue in any way, shape or form that there is still much work to be done,
from the feminist perspective, and I'm sure that sexism is alive and well in the medical field.
I also think that there is something especially diabolical about a doctor who is guilty of sexual misconduct toward his patients. It's bad enough to abuse people. It is MONSTROUS for a doctor to betray the trust placed in him, simply for the sake of not doing his job conscientiously...never mind for the sake of sexual perversion.
EDIT: I also wonder why anyone would go to all the trouble and expense of medical school, only to risk it being taken away when you get caught doing something so flagrantly illegal? Obviously one explanation is mental health issues,
but you don't get to be a doctor by being an idiot, and you would think that a doctor might recognize his own mental health issues and seek help. you would hope, anyway.
Also, he was sane enough to try to conceal it, right? So it's not like he lost his marbles and say he didn't know what he was doing.
I personally hypothesize if he started doing it because he felt he could get away with it...between his age, proximity to retirement, health issues, and being able to afford a good lawyer....
...still, there is always, at the end of the day, the question of WHY anyone would want to do anything like this to anyone else??? Apart from the risks of getting caught, how sick do you have to be that your sexual urges are so profound that you willingly destroy someone's well-being to gratify them???
