Here's a not-terribly-unrealistic hypothetical:
100 or so people are at the cinema watching the latest self-indulgent Tarantino splatter-fest. A shot rings out and someone screams. Luckily, everyone in the cinema is armed, they all stand up and draw their guns. Now, you've got 100 frightened, armed people in a semi-dark room looking for someone with a gun so they can shoot him (or her).
