You do realize that often the defensive use of a gun doesn't involve firing it at all, right?
At times and mostly true but in this case you are talking about someone not sane and willing to die. May have planned to die in which case a threat from a gun wouldn't have much effect on him. Pulling a gun at someone and hesitating might just get you killed.

Of course. I was positing why statistics might possibly be incomplete.
I've found on gun issues most the time the statistics are incomplete depending on who is funding the study. Seen this on both sides of the gun control debate.
