We are animals. We're mammals. We have hair and nipples. We have every characteristic of a Great Ape.
That said, I don't even know what "just" animals means? What other options are there? Robots? Angels? Dragons? Aliens?
I am not really clear on what the term "inherent" value might even mean. Next time I meet someone a religious fanatic has chained in a dungeon for being of the wrong faith, I'll ask them what their "inherent" value is.
Meanwhile, back here in reality, we human animals are as valuable as we decide among ourselves that we are. No more, no less.
That's both a good and a bad thing, and it's our duty to make it as good as we can, since as Edmund Burke put it,
"The only thing necessary for the triumph of evil is for good men to do nothing."
You really should learn why I call myself a Secular Humanist, what we are and what we believe, to understand why I meet your accusations of nihilism with such derision and scorn.
A Christian told me: if you were saved you cant lose your salvation. you're sealed with the Holy Ghost
I replied: Can I refuse? Because I find the entire concept of vicarious blood sacrifice atonement to be morally abhorrent, the concept of holding flawed creatures permanently accountable for social misbehaviors and thought crimes to be morally abhorrent, and the concept of calling something "free" when it comes with the strings of subjugation and obedience perhaps the most morally abhorrent of all... and that's without even going into the history of justifying genocide, slavery, rape, misogyny, religious intolerance, and suppression of free speech which has been attributed by your own scriptures to your deity. I want a refund. I would burn happily rather than serve the monster you profess to love.
