Um, the Romans were done in by invading tribes. They had successfully assimilated the "native" tribes.
Indeed the only non-assimilated tribe was the Jews. it could be argued (and indeed has been; E. Gibbons) that the Empire was brought down by an offshoot cult of that tribe combined with internal corruption.
