I don't know about you, but I tremendously value all the knowledge and art that we have found and accomplished over the millenia, and humanity going extinct would more or less mean that all of that is lost, and I feel that it should be preserved and appreciated as long as possible. That's not an objective value because those do not exist, but I think it is one that is widely shared, and one that is closely tied to human curiosity.
If mankind were to go extinct no one would be here to mourn the loss. It would have no effect on anyone because they would not exist. It would likely have a very positive effect on the rest of the world though.
Plants and animals don't really give a damn about our knowledge and arts as far as I can tell, though zeh puppies might be a bit sad to see us go, I think the cats would celebrate and see it as their shot of being the next species to rule the earth.
I'm not saying that I want us to go extinct. I'm just saying I don't think it's going to happen any time soon, I don't think we need to be so worried about it that we should ban homosexuality in the hopes that gays will have babies, and when it does happen I don't think it will be the worst thing that could ever happen.
