Pope Blames Child Abuse Scandal on Society

In a more basic sense, Ratzinger is right. The child abuse scandal is the fault of the society. The society is at fault to whatever degree it fails to challenge the primitive pretenses of religion and of religious organizations like the catholic church. I have no doubt the selfsame societies will be at fault again in some more years as its new found vigilance against the deviances of the catholic church wanes and the church once more, in the name of freedom of faith, wiggle for itself a de facto degree of immunity from the proper secular standard of conduct.
