Remember the line in the original Planet of the Apes where Taylor says of Dr. Zaius:

"He's the Minister of Science but he is also Defender of the Faith"


Zahi had the same problem.  He was in charge of the Department of Antiquities but he was wedded to a story which is an article of faith among Egyptologists.
