Quote:Does Allah forgive everything?
Yes
Say: "O my Servants who have transgressed against their souls! Despair not of the Mercy of Allah: for Allah forgives all sins: for He is Oft-Forgiving, Most Merciful.
Qur'an 39:53
No
Allah forgiveth not (The sin of) joining other gods with Him; but He forgiveth whom He pleaseth other sins than this: one who joins other gods with Allah, Hath strayed far, far away (from the right)
Qur'an 4:116
That's not a contradiction, because the first principle to know is that Allah will forgive all sins of anyone who repents sincerely during this life, before their death.
This is made clear in the following verses of the Quran:
"O my Servants who have transgressed against their souls! Despair not of the Mercy of Allah. for Allah forgives all sins: for He is Oft-Forgiving, Most Merciful. Turn ye to our Lord (in repentance) and bow to His (Will), before the Penalty comes on you: after that you shall not be helped. And follow the best of (the courses) revealed to you from your Lord, before the Penalty comes on you - of a sudden while you perceive not!" (Surah 39, Verses 53-55)
So, for every other sin (aside from idol-worshiping) that we may have done could be forgiven by Allah if He wants to, without having to repent for them. But the sin of idol-worshiping will not be forgiven unless we repent for them. And that's the only difference. However, all sins are forgivable in the sense that they can forgiven if we sincerely repent to Allah before we die.
