I did hear, recently, about why that stupid light saber is the way it is - the cross guard, supposedly, isn't supposed to function as a normal sword's cross guard, it's apparently there to vent the excess energy of the saber.
That explanation mollifies me a little but, but I still think it's a rather stupid and otherwise dangerous design.
It is interesting to hear that the fights will be more substance over style this time around.
Hmmm, remember When darth maul banged the handle of his light saber into qui gone jinn 's forehead to stun him? That's how a cross guard can definitely make a light saber more useful.
