I don't know if you live in Utopia but I worked in retail a long time and assholes and idiots do get jobs, sometimes they even get promoted and carry on acting like irrational assholes and idiots.
As long as work targets get hit most managers won't care if someone is a bit of an asshole to someone else as long as it doesn't constitute gross misconduct.
The amount of bitching and trying in petty ways to get one over on one other I've encountered it was crazy. Admittedly it's only been 2 or 3 people I've met that did this in a major way but they definitely didn't get fired, and it wasn't just me that considered them to be loud, arrogant and irrational.
One REALLLLY fucking annoying thing that would drive me crazy is one guy would shout an order at me to do something while I was doing it. Like I'd be pushing something out the back door, he can see I'm doing it and he would shout out loud "Push this out the back door." And I'd just be thinking wow thanks for giving me the orders to do that because otherwise I would have forgotten why I was pushing this thing in that direction.
It wasn't just things like that though, I went through years of having the pettiest PETTIEST arguments with this guy over such pathetic things that half of the time I would just give in and walk away.
Basically I put it down to old ugly people with no social lives and wives and children who they hate so they have to take it out on the people in work, I literally got told by the managers this was the case when I complained about that one guy, they just said he's been going through lots of trouble with his wife hence his anger issues.
But anyway, now I don't work in retail I work as a security guard with a bunch of other security guards and there is bitching but it's a much better atmosphere.
Are you ready for the fire? We are firemen. WE ARE FIREMEN! The heat doesn’t bother us. We live in the heat. We train in the heat. It tells us that we’re ready, we’re at home, we’re where we’re supposed to be. Flames don’t intimidate us. What do we do? We control the flame. We control them. We move the flames where we want to. And then we extinguish them.
Impersonation is treason.
