Your misunderstanding lies in your expectation that people are entitled to a theory which explains everything. So if science can't provide it, may as well hang on to the myths and legends that already do?

I doubt if there are many who disbelieve in God but only provided science comes through soon with the answer to every angst filled existential question. Again, your expectation that it should is infantile and irrelevant.
