ALMA can see objects no other device on earth can, we can expect it to find unique bodies. I'm getting the impression this occasion they've jumped the gun though.
It 'sees' objects that radiate energy higher in frequency than what we conventionally call 'radio' and lower in frequency than infrared.
This translates into an ability to study objects that are coolish/cold. Items in the distant reaches of the solar system (should they exist) would qualify. Another characteristic of the device is it's very narrow field of view. It is permanently 'zoomed in', IOWs. In studying an extended object like a nebula, it would be able to accurately show point sources that are 'hot' (like an embryonic star) and regions of different temperatures in its' vicinity, for example.
Might be interesting to look at that 'weird' Kepler object noted a while back.
