I would not do it because I don't want to get caught and face the repercussions. I think most people don't do this because of compassion for the girl and not wanting to do harm. I just need an answer to convince myself that it is "wrong" to do it other than the though of going to prison.

You'd believe if you just opened your heart" is a terrible argument for religion. It's basically saying, "If you bias yourself enough, you can convince yourself that this is true." If religion were true, people wouldn't need faith to believe it -- it would be supported by good evidence.
