Society, morality and the laws have progressed in the last 2000 years.

If everyone loved their fellow man, we'd live in an utopia, as there would be no need for laws.
The Old Testament Israelites/Hebrews/Jews were bigots. They didn't have Gentile neighbors and they certainly didn't love them.
