The primary reason was that they were basically stupid. They were done for as soon as they fired the first shot.
If the UK had capitulated like France and Holland etc the prospect would have been different. The US probably wouldn't have gotten involved, they certainly wouldn't have had the handy launch pad just off France, and the Nazis would have been able to focus on Russia. What I'm saying is there was a chance they could have won but not in the reckless way they went about stuff. There was a plot to kill Hitler which was halted because they decided that if he was killed Germany might have gained a competent leader and start to win again.
