There was a recent thread on this. Most people are apparently against it. I think it's appropriate in very extreme cases, because there are some really messed up people out there that I'd rather not share a planet with. I heard a story about a woman who tortured a child put under her care for a week, until the child eventually died, because this girl was caught flirting with boys. She was jailed, and eventually let out on good behavior. I don't think she deserved to be let out after what she did. I think she deserved to be ended. A bullet to the head would be considered merciful compared to what she put the kid through. So I don't want to hear about the death penalty being considered cruel. I don't want to hear about the 4% error rate when we all know that percentage is dropping over time. Sometiems people do somethign so grotesque that I think putting them to death is a reasonable reaction to what they did.

This wouldn't just be about killing someone for killing someone, to me. if someone shoots a person dead in the heat of passion, and honestly regrets it later, I wouldn't give them the death penalty.
