The Balfour declaration saw the creation of two states in Palestine. There's no doubt that the first aggressors were the Arabs.
It doesn't defend what Israel did and is still doing during these last two decades. But it certainly puts things into perspective when it comes to the roots of the conflict. Also don't conflate Zionist with overall jewish. The Zionist movement was nationalist but left leaning, almost socialist in nature. It has nothing in common with the settlers of today or the religious nutters being part of the Israeli government.
