Could atheist westerners, please explain?

You know, any time I hear an idiot bitching about secularism 'because its anti religion' or some such nonsense, I mentally bitch slap them round the room for the next five minutes. Religious people should universally love secularism, as its the only way to safeguard their right to profess their religion. The likelihood is that under a religiously inspired rule any deviation, even the most miniscule, from pronounced orthodoxy, is likely to result, eventually, in fierce discrimination and persecution.
