Tax is really high in Germany but so is the standard of living. You know that the tax isn't being wasted on the military in the same way that it is in the UK and US.

I think you missed the part where i said it is still important that everyone be educated the best they can. Of course you want the brightest on the top, but with everything in life the higher up you go, the more competition there is and the fewer spots there are. I am not suggesting at all nobody ever move up. I just said it is important everyone be as educated as they can no matter where they end up.
It isn't an either/or thing at all, it is a stability issue. It still remains you cant keep stretching the difference between the top and bottom and expect that rubber band not to break.
I wasn't referring specifically to you, I just describing an example of what happens in Germany when government assistance works for the benefit of everyone. Kusa and his ilk talk about socialist hell holes yet haven't ever lived in a socialist country.
