I know you can't prove a negative, and it's aggravating me lol.
I simply explained the burden of proof lies on the person making the claim something exists. It's up to them to provide evidence of a God (I know they can't prove that) and I think they are trying to flip the script out of desperation.

You've responded exactly the way you should. It's not your fault they do not understand logic 101.
I believe some theists ask for the atheist to prove that god does not exist, because they are under the impressions that the atheist position is the claim that their god does not exist. But as you correctly point out, your position is not being convinced that their god does exist.
Ask them to prove the nonexistence of every other god they don't believe in, then tell them you will use the same method to prove their's doesn't exist. After they're done squirming a while, you can insert any snarky comment you feel fits.
You'd believe if you just opened your heart" is a terrible argument for religion. It's basically saying, "If you bias yourself enough, you can convince yourself that this is true." If religion were true, people wouldn't need faith to believe it -- it would be supported by good evidence.
