And do you believe that these two crimes are equally harmful and equally deserving of execution? Hurting people's feelings can't even COMPARE to murder.
I'm not try to compare the two.... I'm just saying its there to DETER the sin of adultery to be committed. Christians/Jews if I'm not mistaken have the same punishment.
BTW its like countries have nukes to deter other countries from attacking them with a nuke.
Quote:So it's okay to LIE in your honest, tight-knit communities? And you're saying that adultery is not a big deal as long as it doesn't go public and cause negative feelings?
Hushing it up, pretending it didn't happen, and avoiding responsibility. What kind of morality is that?
Lying is okay to keep the state of marriage positive. Its okay to say "honey dinner was wonderful"...even though it was the worst meal you ever ate. Lying to keep the family together is okay, but in the case of adultry... you better be praying and REPENTING....because sooner or later it'll haunt you.
Quote:So either the wrongdoer asks to be stoned to death, or he's boasting about it with no remorse.
If someone genuinely wants to die because he believes that's the only way to repent, that's a result of religious brainwashing and it's truly a tragedy.
If he's boasting without remorse, then he's an asshole. But he still doesn't deserve death. Publicly humiliate him, expel him from the community, ANYTHING else. Better yet, work together as a community to repair the damaged relationships. Why is death the only solution?
Look if this is the ONE thing that turns you off, then don't accept it. Maybe the other stuff in the religion can help bring positive outcome in life.
Maybe in the hereafter we can ask why our Creator handed out such a sentence...
Quote:Whether or not it's a rare occurrence, it's still disgusting, and impossible to justify. So what if he's guilty? This 'sentence' shouldn't even exist, it shouldn't even be an option. By murdering him, you're committing a MUCH greater crime.
As I said it is so rare that no one even knows the process of such a sentencing. Call the ambassador of UAE, Malaysia, Iran, Oman, ...etc. and ask them when was the last time a stoning sentence was issued. Go ahead and call them and you tell us what they say.......
If you are going to bring up cases from an uneducated nation that has been suffering tremendously because of war.......all I can say is that people's mentality changes at times of extreme difficulty. They did not deserve those sentences.
