I hear what you are saying with respect to subjective life experiences, including moments of personal transcendence. Do you suppose that some kinds of things, like first principles, are obvious to reason? I'm thinking here of something like the PNC.
I tend to distrust the notion of self-evidence. Our brains take many short cuts in reasoning things out and it is never clear from within our minds whether the path taken is just such a short cut or not. Ultimately, since we evolved our brains, everything should be on the table. The PNC is a principle which holds only in certain types of logics. Is there such a thing as a 'natural' logic or are they all essentially arbitrary with classical logic appealing to us because it mirrors the way we think? I would say the PNC is sound, but that 'feeling' that I get when I contemplate it is just another evolved short cut. The reason why I have that feeling about the PNC is buried in my subconscious.
