he would not be such an apparent and obtuse egotistical ass. Clearly, this god character was created by a very disturbed man who had severe mental issues.

Were in a stupid situation either way. Unwanted immortality for the unbelievers in the form of helish purification or eternal sleeping. Although, normal christians driven by fear are quite productive.
