I don't think I would have assumed that about any other bible version except maybe the Catholic (abomination) on the theory they'd be as anal retentive about their bible as the KJV people I assumed were but turned out not to be.
Yeah, as a bibliophile who has come to specialise in hardcover, I can say there isn't exactly a single "standard hard cover book size." In fact, I usually set the books in my reading queue aside, stacked in order of increasing size. (Width and Length), and it's actually quite rare for two to be the exact same size. A lot of them get close, especially if they're from the same time and publisher, but there's a LOT of variation, even if a lot of it is subtle. Hell, virtually any bookstore worth its salt (especially new bookstores) will have some an entire section devoted to various editions of the Bible, coming in all shapes and sizes. And given that the KJV is public domain, and can thus be published by any schmuck with access to a printing press without legal repercussions, there's sure to be a lot of them.
