Yea because when you're pinned down by two police officers, and one has a gun to your chest, you're going to try to reach for your own gun.
The problem is, it doesn't matter what you or I think it only matters what a lot of people feel. All we hear about cops in the media is how much they love to murder black people. It's completely irrelevant as to whether it's true. It's what everyone hears. It's what many people think. Then a black man is killed in your town, and you've been told for years about how your life sucks because of racism, you're poor because of racism, your dog died because of racism, you didn't get into college because of racism, you can't hold down a job because of racism, and you might get murdered by a cop every time you leave your house. And you really are poor and your life really does suck and perhaps its a mixture of bad choices and unfortunate circumstances. Where do you think the mindset is going to be after this? It's horrible and unjustified, but not surprising.
