The question was asked of OT jews. NOT Christians. As the dietary restrictions applied to OT Jews and not Christians.
So, Yes back then OT Jews were not subject to the swine and other blood born disease or bacteria as their was a prohibition on consuming both. In an age without refrigeration, in a hot desert climate, where people did not know to they had to cook their food thoroughly to ensure transmission of disease. Yes followers of the OT dietary law were indeed subject to less 'sickness' than those who did not.
