I agree with all the above. At the same time, isn't it almost always the case that those criminals who do not have purely material or personal motives (thieves and rapists) have some type of mental disorder. Meaning, when they say a mass shooter, for example, had a history of mental problems, when would that not be the case. The depraved and politically motivated leaders are by design clearly exploiting weak-minded individuals. As I see it, mental instability it not the cause of their actions; but rather, a necessary condition upon which evil people prey.
What I mean is that undiagnosed insane people have many many possible outlets for their condition. Some turn on others, other harm themselves, and some seek help. Much depends on outside influences that direct the intention of their disease in different directions. If radical Islamic propaganda was rare and difficult to access by disaffected young Muslims, then maybe they would be less inclined to strike out and more open to the influence to a positive Islamic worldview (if there is one). I'm not calling for censorship. I'm just pointing out that the continued existence of well-organized Islamic terror groups and State-sponsors makes it impossible to marginalize the radical ideologies that motivate so-called 'lone wolf' terrorists.
