I could get a faster connection if I paid extra. Not worth the money nor do I have it though.

I'm on fibre optic right now, but we used to be on the standard, basic slow internet with Sky. Virgin actually works out slightly cheaper and you're getting a major upgrade in speed.

I heard some horror stories about terrible connection with Virgin, but our service has only went down once in just under a year and that was when they were doing work in our area.

It used to go down quite frequently with Sky. But I see you're on BT, which is what my friend is on and he reports the connection is horrendous.
