Actually, when I look around at what religion and god belief has done...if there is a god who is responsible...he/she/it/them are the ones who should be judged. I am not a person of faith at all, but certainly don't fear being judged by a god. If the best it can do is threaten me with eternal punishment simply because I didn't worship it in the approved manor, then it isn't a god worth bothering with. Perhaps the only thing more distasteful than worshiping, is allowing one's self to be worshiped. The god of Abraham (Jewish / Christian / Muslim one) is defected on every level without a single redeeming characteristic.
But if it is the best you can do to make yourself feel special or important, then you should probably cling to it. Just try not to hurt anyone else while you do so.
