I too found cancellation an easy process when my first subscription to Prime was up for renewal. They even offered me the choice of canceling the day I submitted the cancellation request or at the renewal date. It was all automated. No email or customer service rep required. I just clicked on my desired cancellation choice. I don't think they mess around like internet scams typically do.
I just checked. I clicked on the Prime logo, at the bottom of the page was a link to managing my Prime account, on that page was an option to 'end membership', and clicking that I was given three options: notify me 3 days before renewal, end membership, or keep membership. I can understand your fear of getting scammed, but I don't think Amazon is in the business of doing that with Prime.
