No, it's actually the victim sympathizing with his victimizer -- similar, but not the same. But I was wrong in thinking that one of the mechanisms is blaming the victim. It's often the case in abusive personal relationships (which are a form of SS), and abusive relationships do often involve victim-blaming. Thanks for reminding my to check my resources; I was on my phone earlier and that's why I was uncertain, but I'd forgotten to look into it further until reading this reply.
