Not even one second.
The brain work in the same way.
As soon as the heart stop sending blood and oxygen to the brain the brain is automatically off.
No time to do anything at all.
This is science not the kind of bull that you guess.
That clearly means that the consciousness take over and again means that we are immortal.
A bad news for atheist pride but a good news for atheists anyway because we never die and
something great expect us.
@Little Rik. Wrong, the human brain does not work like a light. Scientific studies has shown that areas of the brain are still active after death. In fact, in history, there were recorded examples of executed people's (by having their heads chopped off) eye's still moving and mouth's opening in horror. Therefore, consciousness, at least some part, does still continue to exist in the brain for some time. Therefore, it is very possible the near death experience Howard Storm had was just a manifestation of a dream like experience in his own head it was because his brain was still conscious.
Secondly, you accuse me of not using science and calling my theory bullshit. After that, you then ironically turn around and suggest that a magical man in the sky did it. Rik, you need to understand that just because we don't understand what happens after Death, or what happened before the Big Bang, doesn't support the existence of God. In fact, replace God in all your arguments with The Giant Spaghetti Monster and you'll realise how dumb you sound.

You don't get it, do you?
Your problem is that you start judging by taking in consideration big things that you can not understand yet.
Brain and consciousness are two separate things.
The fact that during someone life are stuck together does not mean that once the body-brain die consciousness also die.
This concept belong to the stone age.
You can touch the body and the brain but you can not touch the consciousness.
The consciousness is an abstract entity.
It can not be destroyed ever.
It is made of energy and energy is made of consciousness.
They are the two sides of the same sheet.
Even physics tell us that energy can not be destroyed.
Get real mate and leave the stone age mentality where it belong.
That is so ironic. SO SO Ironic I forgot to laugh.
So your telling me that I'm taking in consideration big things that I can't understand. I can easily turn that back at you with your belief in God. There are thousands of religions out there contradicting each other. How do you know that YOUR religion is the one true one?
