There is a promise in Matthew 18:19 and at least 11 other places that prayers will be answered. They are not - that is obvious and has been demonstrated by many studies, such as this one.

Also, the fundamental contradiction of a just, loving being who condemns us to hell simply for not believing in him.
Only sheep need a shepherd.
