Note that they were both asked about how they struggled with their faith.
Kaine spoke about how he struggled with the fact that his religion opposes the death penalty but his state supported it, and that ultimately he chose to uphold the law regardless of his beliefs.
Pence spoke about abortion, how he is against it, and he governed a state which enacted numerous anti-abortion laws. I missed how that was somehow a "struggle".
