So "would" being the operative word here.
A real world example on the quantum level would be gravity. It has a beginning in space and time as matter clumps together creating centers (shells) of greater and great gravitational influence....which has no boundary only ever decreasing degree of influence over distance. Gravitational centers tend towards increase rather than decrease over time. The homogeneous substance needed for wave transmition would be the fabric of space time/Higgs field.
