The old testament is the whole story of why the sacrifice of Jesus in the new testament was necessary  It all points to Jesus, the messiah.  Without the old testament there would be no meaning to the new testament.

I'd say you've got it reversed.  That's interpreting the old testament in light of the new testament.  But I can understand how you make that mistake.

Are you saying that's it's not apparent from a reading of the old testament that they are speaking of a coming messiah?
