Who said we had to try? You're the one making the positive claim that a god exists. Personally I'm one of the few atheists that strongly believe that your god does not exist rather than merely claiming that there is no evidence for it. This is because the very concept of a god is logically inconsistent, can't be unequivocably defined and we have evidence for alternative and simpler explanations for everything that theists claim their god is responsible for.
But see what I am doing here? Referring to evidence. Theists would also use evidence if there was any. But there isn't So they have to concoct some meaningless statements laid out as if they were some kind of logical proof.
