I purchased a new hunting rifle package a couple months ago at Cabela's. My rifle came with some shitty NRA sign up material which promptly went to the garbage. I'm guessing anytime a gun is purchased the NRA propaganda department gets instantly notified which is why they contacted me. It just so happens that earlier in the day I used my new rifle for deer hunting.
NRA : Sir, do you have a moment to listen to a message from our vice president Wayne LaPierre
Me: Sure, this will be good.
The message was a recording of Wayne looking for my support by becoming an NRA member. You see Obama in his last months in office is going to declare war on the second amendment and take our guns away. The NRA needs my support in stopping him.
After the message the person come back on the phone.
NRA : Sir, what did you think of the message? Do we have your support?
Me: Laughing.. So now that Mr. Trump is president, your worried that the crazy gun nuts aren't going to be as inclined to hand over their money to you. You've got a small window of opportunity here to spew some fear mongering bullshit and score a few paying members before the well runs dry.
Me: I'm a gun owner as your probably aware. In fact I used my gun the morning to do some deer hunting. The last thing I'm afraid of is someone taking my guns.
NRA : Long pause.. Thank you sir, ummm.... What do you think the NRA should focus on?
Me: When I was in high school, the NRA was an organization that taught hunting and gun safety. I'm guessing that doesn't fire up the troops and get the money flowing like claiming the government wants our guns.
NRA: Click...
Yeah, they call me after each purchase. I'm not sure who they are data mining. I've always hung up on them.
About 5 years ago I joined the NRA for a year. I wanted a first hand look at what they were pushing. Other than technical reviews there was a lot of scare tactic articles. I still get yearly mailed notices.
I just checked 4 of the gun/ammo sites I frequent. Gun prices remain the same pre and post Trump. Cost of ammo that I purchase for the range is up 3 to 10 percent.
Being told you're delusional does not necessarily mean you're mental.
