Trump will tweet some nasty nonsense, then get back to the business of letting Pence be president, while he has another twitter tantrum at the next poor slob to gain his ire.
We can disagree with Trump's stated policy positions and loathe his general character, but he's no idiot. I think he chose Pence intentionally as a type of insurance policy against impeachment and assassination. I would seriously rather take my chances and deal with Trump than have the likes of Pence in the oval office.
True. Pence is an extremist, a proponent of ID and a religious inerrantist.

Why would they Bother? Trump will probably quit or be impeached, leaving them with their wet dream, president Pence. And even if he doesnt, it would probably take very little to make him a figurehead only, that just does some repeat victory tours so his brainless fans can bask in his orangeness for the next 4 years, while Pence does the serious governing. Same difference.
From a marketing POV, it is a question of the bandwagon effect. One elector, from Texas, has already come-out publicly and said that he is not voting for Trump. I suspect that the majority of Republican electors hate Trump; they were, after all, not picked by him or his cronies but by the party establishment.
