In generally, I think it is beneath the dignity of the high offices to spend their time denouncing and disowning the comments of knuckle-headed celebrities, petty tyrants, and nutjobs. Some obscure up-and-coming journalist puts a microphone in front of an attention seeking ass-wipe and all of a sudden it's on cable news for the next three days. No one cares except political opportunists and idiot pundits that need new sensational material for their talk-shows.
