I myself think that Christian faith in eternal hell is a human fabrication, because it cant even pass our universal standard of fair trail. And yet, millions of minds try to embrace this mind torture to present a reason for themselves on why they should sacrifice their lives for the "greater good". And if God exists, he doesn't even give a shit when one of the "holy books" he presented to one of to nations get edited by believers. Yahwe witnesses, went as far as removed extreme penalty completely and replaced it with permanent death idea, for unbelievers.
I was in hindu strand of religion, and they had a sophisticated explanation of hell, where its described as temporary penalty.
Still, even science didn't gave me a 100% certainty, that there is no God, even the one who is bent on turning people into perfect beings/"junior angels" even if He has to torture people quite literally to an unimaginable degree. And this hardcore version of God is the most popular brand of presenting a Deity.
