Our origins determine whether we evolve or de-evolve...
If abiogenesis is correct, then evolution in the sense that we evolved from a common ancestor is also correct.
If creationism is correct, then it is not possible for humans to become better than how God originally made them, the only way to go is in a negative direction, hence "devolve"...
