Yes, how had i broken the law? The rules did not say MERELY, but MAINLY basic characters.

In other words, you may enforce rules according to how your FEELINGS are, regardless of whether rules are broken or not.

You guys probably need to update the rules, to forbid the use of stars in titles.
You could also add this rule:

(1) Please contact admin or mod, and ask whether a particular symbol is usable.

Otherwise, you could provide a list of banned symbols.
