I always found this argument pathetic. It's a completely false analogy. Darkness is demonstrably the absence of light. Cold is demonstrably the absence of heat. The notion of evil being the absence of good cannot be demonstrated. In fact I'd say if anything it's the other way around. To be a good person the absence of being evil... i.e. not murdering people is more important when it comes to being good than doing positively good deeds.
