I do not think this army went to be destroyed. As for an Ethiopian army of one million, that's not what the Bible says, you stopped short of reading about Asa's entire reign. The seer Hanani asked Asa why he didn't rely on the LORD as he did when he faced the army made up of Ethiopians and Lubims (ie Libyans). During those times history tell of armies joining together to defeat Egypt. Shishak with his Ethiopian army was joined by the Lubim army to defeat Egypt and Shishak became the first black Egyptian pharaoh. Shishak was the Egyptian pharaoh that lead that million man army, so there were probably Egyptians amongst those million also.
