Took a off & on journey to atheism from about the age of 12 when I started really struggling with religion, by the age of 23 I was a universalist and the more I research the more it all fell apart.

Welcome! As for the "rare" aspect, one's mileage will vary on that. In France, about two-thirds of the population fall into the atheist/agnostic camp, and so, I suspect that one's race would not matter that much in France. As for the US, the atheist/agnostic group is the most disliked minority in America, and so, race does not play much of a role here, either, as we are only 5% of the population at most.
