True. The problem the GOP seems to have is that they have a tendency to confuse 'Chief Executive' with 'Pitch Man'. The former requires intelligence and a certain skill set. The latter can as well be Elmer Gantry -- especially considering how incredibly ignorant so much of their base is. Rope in the rubes every four years and fuck 'em when they're not paying attention, which is all the rest of the time. No intelligence needed for that, beyond a certain cynical cunning.
