What is up with the disdain Republicans have towards educational institutes?

Reality has a liberal bias. Conservatives, and authoritarians tend to want to maintain the status quo in an ever changing world, and the more educated people are, the more likely they are to realize that if you don't change with time, you get left behind.

It's already too late people already know that the status quo is fucking them over even the poor educated red state republicans know that at this point.

Kind of an inevitability of the information age, where even poor people can usually find a library with internet access.

Then again, I ran across a story where some woman praised trupcare for her son's lower medical insurance cost. Something that hasn't even passed into law yet. So we still have a ways to go.
